Cameron Oglesby

Senior Officer, Rural Outreach

Cameron is the Senior Officer for Rural Outreach on Climate United's Community Team, where she helps develop and execute the organization's community engagement strategies for rural and underserved communities. She is an internationally recognized environmental justice organizer and storyteller who has worked for nearly a decade with academic institutions, NGOs, and communities in North Carolina and the U.S. Southeast to establish climate education initiatives, redistribute resources to frontline organizers, and report on environmental racism, climate change, and agriculture. She is passionate about re-centering the voices, narratives, and knowledge of historically disinvested communities in conservation, environmental policy, and corporate decision-making.

Cameron is a National Geographic Young Explorer, a Future Leader Climate Fellow with the Aspen Institute, an EE 30 Under 30 Leader with the North American Association for Environmental Education, and a 40 Under 40 Awardee with Young, Gifted, and Green. In her free time, she serves as the founder and project lead for the Environmental Justice Oral History Project – a developing educational repository that combines diverse storytelling methods to provide a comprehensive view of environmental justice in the U.S. South. She has been featured on panels, in the written word, and in documentary film alongside the originators of the Environmental Justice Movement and continues to work directly with several Southeast community-based organizations on their strategy-building, capacity-building, and storytelling efforts. Her advocacy and environmental justice journalism work has been recognized by Covering Climate Now, Black in Environment, the Southern Environmental Law Center, and the Society of Environmental Journalists among others.

Cameron received her Master in Public Policy and her Bachelors in Environmental Science and Policy from Duke University. Prior to Climate United, Cameron worked on sustainability and public/social sector engagements as a consultant at McKinsey & Company. Her work with rural, environmental justice communities is inspired by her own connection to ancestral farmland in Maryland that’s been in her family for over 100 years.
