February in the Midwest

Milwaukee, WI

We recognize that for the clean energy transition to be far reaching and truly just, expanded economic opportunity needs to be extended to all. Climate United traveled to Milwaukee, Wisconsin to meet with labor representatives, college and university leaders, apprenticeship leaders, city and state representatives, technical assistance providers, environmental justice groups and more around the topic of workforce development and job creation. We co-hosted this event with Opportunity@Work, an organization focused on rewiring the U.S. labor markets so that all individuals Skilled Through Alternative Routes (STARs) can work and earn to their full potential.

We shared our workforce mission to generate high quality jobs with a diverse, skilled workforce through setting policies, priorities, and enforcing standards on our financial products. The tenants of our strategy are supporting job training and opportunity pathways, creating industry standards and best practices, developing, and implementing standardized criteria to evaluate labor practices on all projects we fund, and broadly collaborating with industry partners to grow capacity and educate. Meeting with stakeholders who are already doing this work and eager to engage with the Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund allowed us to share our ideas and get crucial feedback from experts.
