Statement: Despite passage of harmful budget bill, Climate United will continue mission to deliver affordable clean energy

July 3, 2025

Today, Congress narrowly passed a budget bill that will negatively impact communities across the country. The bill will increase the cost of electricity and kill millions of good paying jobs while slashing critical infrastructure investments, making communities more vulnerable and taking money out of the pockets of hardworking Americans that can least afford it.

The bill also repeals the Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund (GGRF) and rescinds unobligated dollars. It will not impact Climate United’s grant funds, which were obligated and disbursed in 2024, and have been stayed because of pending litigation.

In response to the passage of the bill, Climate United CEO Beth Bafford offered the following statement:

“Despite this significant policy setback, clean energy will continue to be deployed across the country because it's cheaper, healthier, and faster to build. We remain laser focused on our mission to expand access to financing for these technologies so that every American can benefit. Climate United will continue to do everything we can to unfreeze our funds and get back to investing in communities that need it most.”
