Frederick B. (Bart) Harvey III is currently Chair of Calvert Impact, Inc, a worldwide Impact Investment organization, former 10 year Director of Fannie Mae during its Conservatorship, and has served and serves on a number of nonprofit Boards. He retired in March 2008 from his role as Chairman and CEO of Enterprise Community Partners, a provider of development capital and technical expertise to create affordable housing and rebuild communities. Enterprise worked with partners – developers, investors, government, and primarily community-based nonprofits – to raise and invest over $10 billion of private resources that have helped produce over 250,000 homes for low-income households.
Before joining Enterprise, Mr. Harvey served in various domestic and international positions with Dean Witter Reynolds, leaving as managing director of corporate finance.
In 2004 Harvey led an effort to bring together leaders from the environmental and community development fields to create the Green Communities® initiative. This $555 million initiative exceeded by 50% its five-year goal of building more than 8,500 affordable homes that promote health, conserve energy and natural resources, and promote easy access to jobs, schools and services.
Mr. Harvey was appointed by Congress to the Millennium Housing Commission from 2000-2002. He has been a Director of the Federal Home Loan Bank of Atlanta and serves on the National Advisory Board for the Urban Land Institute Terwilliger Center for Workforce Housing. He has served on numerous Boards including the Baltimore Education Scholarship Trust, Center Stage, the Blue Mood Fund, the National Housing Conference, National Housing Trust, and Shepherd’s Clinic.
Most recently Mr. Harvey was chosen as the 2008 recipient of The Urban Land Institute J.C. Nichols Prize for Visionaries in Urban Development, as well as the National Housing Conference’s 2008 Housing Person of the Year.
He has an MBA and BA from Harvard University and lives in Baltimore with his wife and three children.
